Online avalanche classes we are currently aware of:

The Avalanche Institute - An Avalanche Center project

Our own comprehensive and robust education project offers full courses with instructors and assessments. Classes range from recreational to professional in scope. The platform used is Dokeos, a full featured project developed in Belgium for use in higher education and currently in use around the world by many universities. The courses require registration, which requires membership and/or a course fee. Since the course descriptions cannot be made visible to unregistered users we have posted information, including course outlines, here in our Education Section.

Avalanche and Snow Dynamics, Spring 2007 - USU - WILD 5460

An online version of this course from Utah State University. Free. This is one of many classes available on their OpenCourseWare system. Course materials are provided, including videos of presentations. Not all classroom material is included. No credit, no access to faculty - but no fees either. While some OCW classes apparently have self-assessments (such as quizes) this one does not appear to.

Avalanche First Response Training Program

A project of the Canadian Avalanche Association. Seven modules, with quizes. No credit, no access to faculty or instructors. Free.

Classes on relevant topics we are currently aware of:

JetStream - Online School for Weather

An excellent resource for learning about weather, from the US National Weather Service. Includes excercises that would be very useful for K-12 teachers.
